Christian Brothers Academy is proud to announce that student-athlete Syair Torrence, who led the Brothers football team to two State Championships (2021 in Class A and in 2023 in Class AA), has signed his letter of intent to continue his intercollegiate athletic career at Boston College in the fall.
A member of the varsity football team since eighth grade, Torrence announced his decision on Wednesday afternoon in the Dan Byrne '70 Performing Arts Center and thanked family, coaches, teammates, friends and the Central New York Community for their support through the years.
"To my 315 community, my promise to you is I will never forget where I came from. I will always rep 315 wherever I go," Torrence shared. "I can't wait to see what the future ahead has in store for me, and I promise you I will step up to the challenge."
Torrence, who played on both sides of the ball for the Brothers, was named First Team All- State in 2021 and 2022 and was an All-CNY selection his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. (The 2023 All State and CNY Teams have not been announced)
This past season, Torrence led the Brothers to a perfect 14-0 season. He capped off his CBA career this season with 74 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, five interceptions, 38 catches, 702 receiving yards, 14 carries, 115 rushing yards and 12 total touchdowns.
"We are so proud of Syair and everything he has worked towards, led and accomplished in his time here at CBA," head coach Casey Brown said. "On top of the two New York State Championships and the incredible offensive and defensive stats, Syair has developed himself into a tremendous leader that understands the standard to be great in life. We are thrilled that he has committed to join the esteemed Boston College football program. Syair's decision marks an exciting milestone in his athletic journey, showcasing his dedication to both academic excellence and gridiron success at the collegiate level."
