Throughout our students' educational experience at CBA, they learn about our worldwide Lasallian network and our twin school, the Child Discovery Centre (CDC) in Nakuru, Kenya. The CDC is a Lasallian Catholic ministry that serves 47 homeless and extremely financially impoverished children in grades 9-12.

As part of our twinning program, we have recently implemented a pen pal initiative between our students at CBA in Syracuse, New York and the students at the CDC in Nakuru, Kenya. I hope that you enjoy reading one of the recent correspondences from their student, Sadick Ouma, to our senior student, Claire Hulslander!

Hi friend, thank you so much for your feedback. My school has grade 9- 12. Our school has one storey building, a library, hall but it is not that big. We have a football playground, basketball pitch and a handball ground. We also have a swimming pool. Do you love swimming? I normally enjoy swimming during the weekends. Thanks for congratulating my achievement to regional level for public speaking. I will put more effort and I hope one day I will be the best in my country. My favorite teacher is our school principal madam Pilister who teaches biology and chemistry and they happen to be my favorite subject. She is the one who has been encouraging me to participate in public speaking. I have friends who we meet for schools group discussions over the weekend. I don't know how to bake but i am a champion in cooking our local dish called "ugali" it is made from maize flour. Have you ever tasted it? It is the most common meal in all Kenyan households. It was nice to hear your brother is in Kenya I wish he can visit the centre I would be glad to meet him. Am sure he is having fun because Kenya is blessed with beautiful scenery and parks. We are also blessed with to have so many tribes with different cultures. Have you ever heard of the Maasai? They love jumping and the drink fresh blood from cows and goats as part of their cultural practice. It would be a pleasure working together. I wish our paths will cross someday. All the best.
Yours sincerely
SADICK OUMA

A Lasallian education seeks to build community. The experience of community develops here within CBA Syracuse but also extends further to our worldwide Lasallian network. By experiencing community, students develop the skill set to build community. From, "To Teach As Jesus Did," the US Catholic Bishops provided this reflection:

Community is at the heart of Christian education, not simply as a concept to be taught, but as a reality to be lived. Through education, people must be moved to build community in all areas of life; they can do this best if they have learned the meaning of community by experiencing it. Formed by this experience, they are better able to build community in their families, their places of work, their neighborhoods, their nation, their world.
