A Veterans Day Thank You from CBA
November 10, 2023
Each year, Veterans Day coincides with the feast day of St. Martin of Tours, a celebrated soldier. As we honor our veterans, may the life of Saint Martin remind us of all that has been secured by the brave men and women who have served our country.
St. Martin was a Roman soldier who, through an encounter with a barely clothed beggar at the gate of the city of Amiens, France, was inspired to convert to Christianity. With sword in hand and dressed in medieval armour, St. Martin boldly sliced his cloak in half in order to share it with the beggar.
St. Martin of Tours’ act of charity represents both the continued protection of others and the service of those in need. May the life of St. Martin remind us of the many ways that our veterans protect our safety and freedoms. On this Veterans Day, we show our deep appreciation for all who have served in the United States Armed Forces, fighting for justice while serving those in need at home and abroad.
Veterans Day Prayer
Loving God, We ask for blessings on all those who have served their country in the armed forces. We ask for healing for the Veterans who have been wounded, in body and soul, in conflicts around the globe. We pray especially for the young men and women, who are coming home with injured bodies and traumatized spirits. Bring solace to them, O Lord; may we pray for them when they cannot pray. We ask for an end to wars and the dawning of a new era of peace, as a way to honor all the veterans of past wars.
Have mercy on all our Veterans. Bring peace to their hearts and peace to the regions they fought in. Bless all the soldiers who served in non-combative posts; May their calling to service continue in their lives in many positive ways.
Give us all the creative vision to see a world which, grown weary with fighting, moves to affirming the life of every human being and so moves beyond war. Hear our prayer, O Prince of Peace, hear our prayer.
Amen.
