3 Most Fascinating Statistics...
October 27, 2023
Quite often, my LasallianLife anecdotes reflect on stories of the heart. One of the beauties of De La Salle's educational vision was that it was both practical and spiritual. Academic rigor formed students for daily, earthly, "success." Vigilance of the conscience formed students for eternal "success." For today, we will switch from the heart to the mind…
For those of you that know me well, you are most likely aware that the former math teacher remains a part of me - I love data! I enjoy digging into all things numbers. I am intrigued by what data means and what it tells us about our mission at CBA. Today, I want to share with you three statistics that have been the most fascinating to me over the past year.
Most Fascinating Statistic #1: CNY Demographics and School Enrollment
US birth rates have declined by approximately 20% since 2007, causing the number of school age children to drastically decline. This, combined with the declining Catholic school enrollment across the country, caused us to analyze our local landscape. We compared school enrollments from 1998-2021. The following chart reflects the total number of students in three high school grade levels. As you see, the overall student enrollment in CNY declined by 8,716 students, or 25%. Amazingly, during that same time, CBA's enrollment grew by 14%.
What does this mean? We have a lot to be proud of at Christian Brothers Academy! Yet, together, we must continue to move the institution forward in new ways, responding to the needs of today's students with creative fidelity to our Lasallian mission.
Most Fascinating Statistic #2: AP EXAM RESULTS
The College Board recognizes a small number of schools with the distinguished honor of being named a “Platinum School.” For a school to receive this highest distinction, they must achieve the following:
1) Expand the school's college culture by enabling 80% of the Class of 2024 to experience 1 AP course before graduating.
2) Assist with college affordability by enabling 50% of the Class of 2024 to earn college credit by earning an AP Exam score of 3.
3) Optimize student's college readiness by creating opportunities for 15% of the Class of 2024 to take a total of 5 APs across their high school years, with at least 1 taken in 9th or 10th grade.
We are proud to announce that CBA has earned the highest honor - the designation as a "platinum" school, through the following accomplishments:
83% of the senior class has taken at least 1 AP course
62% of the senior class has earned college credit by scoring a 3 or higher on an exam
16% of the senior class has taken 5 or more APs during their Sophomore and Junior years
What does this mean? As a school, we provide academic rigor that is driven by the unwavering belief in the potential of each student.
Most Fascinating Statistic #3: Education as a Vocational Calling
In an anonymous end of the year faculty and staff survey, 97% of our faculty and staff members indicated that they viewed their role at CBA as a vocational calling.
