De La Salle emphasized to the early Brothers that, “To touch the hearts of your students and inspire them with the Christian Spirit is the greatest miracle you can perform.”

As teachers, staff members, coaches, or trustees, many of us reflect that although we set out to touch hearts, it is our hearts that are touched.

Recently, 7th grade religion teacher and breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Susan Major, received this email after a dress down day for Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

Hi Mrs. Major!

I was planning on coming to talk to you after school but I just wanted to say that I was thinking about you throughout the day and how happy you must've felt seeing everyone in their pink and red today! I am so inspired by your story and I hope you felt the love. Congrats on the many years since you beat breast cancer. You're amazing! Have a great day, Mrs. Major!!

Harriet is a current 10th grade student. Her love and care for her former teacher illustrate the mysterious reciprocity of how God works in our lives. When we seek to be the presence of God to others by touching hearts - miraculously, we are blessed with feeling God’s presence through the touching of our own heart.

As we near the conclusion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our love and prayers go out to the women and their families who have been impacted by this disease. May God bless you with continued faith, courage, and healing.

President, Christian Brothers Academy
